Court remands 36-year-old nursing mother over alleged murder of husband

A Koforidua Magistrate Court has remanded into police custody a 36-year-old woman who together with her son allegedly killed her husband at Asamanketewa near Nkurakan in the Eastern Region.

The court presided over by his Worship, Eric Danning, however granted a GH¢10,000 bail with two sureties to her 15-year-old son.

It was after his counsel argued that he was a juvenile and has no link to the crime.

He added that he was only rescuing his mother who was under attack.

At the court hearing on Wednesday, September 1, the judge refused an application for bail for Mavis, the prime suspect when the prosecutor, Chief Inspector, Hayford Osei prayed the court to remand her until the police are done with investigations while pursuing other suspects who are currently at large.

Presenting the facts of the case in court, Chief Inspector Hayford Osei said the complainant is Seth Adjei Boadu, 25, a driver residing in Haatso in Accra.

According to him, the deceased, Eric Amoako, 52, and his wife, Mavis Amponsah were married for 17 years and blessed with five children, all living at Asamanketewa, a farming Community near Nkurakan in Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern region.

He stated that on August 28, at about 9:30 pm, the deceased allegedly accused the wife of infidelity resulting in an exchange of words that degenerated into a fight.

Their 15-year-old son, the prosecutor said, joined the mother in the scuffle against the father.

The police prosecutor stated that Mavis, subsequently called his brother Kofi Dennis who arrived with two other accomplices from Dawu-Akuapem near Adukrom and subjected the deceased to severe beatings and allegedly struck his head with a pestle.

He explained that the deceased sustained a deep cut at the back of his head.

According to him, he fell unconscious and was rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua by Kofi Dennis and his accomplices at large.
