Football: AGF to organize women’s football tournament in Mfantseman

A non-governmental and humanitarian foundation called Adwowa Gyaaba Foundation (AGF) has hinted that it would organize a football tournament for the women’s teams in the Mfantseman municipality of the Central Region (CR).
The initiative, according to the foundation, would be the first-ever women’s tournament in the municipality and would among other things, bring to the limelight the female teams in the area.
This was announced by the director of operations of the foundation, Kweku Quainoo, at a ceremony held for award-winning teams of a tournament organised by the foundation at Anomabo.
He was responding to a suggestion made by the chairman of the Mfantseman Municipal Football Association, Mr Shaibu Issaka, that, the foundation should consider factoring in women’s teams in their subsequent tournaments.
“As the chairman of the Mfantseman football association, I must say I’m extremely enthused with this initiative by the foundation because I’m for anything about football in this municipality but I’ll urge the founders and leaders of the foundation to since the foundation is in memory of a woman, Maame Adwowa Gyaaba, the late mother of the CEO of the foundation, who I’m told was a football fun when she was alive, consider featuring our women’s teams in the subsequent ones since this is the maiden one”, Shaibu Issaka who was the chairman for the ceremony had said.
Then responding to it in an exclusive interview with thenewsroomonline.com’s Kojo Ata Kakrah Abrowah after the program, the director of operations said the suggestion was a good one so “the foundation will surely work on that to initiate that…in fact, we’ll liaise with the chairman himself when the time is due to make it happen”.
The tournament, Adwowa Gyaaba Memorial Soccer tournament, was organised by the Adwowa Gyaaba foundation for seven football clubs in the Mfantseman municipality, Mfantseman FC, Kormantse; Tomprese FC, Anomabo; Awiano FC, Anomabo; Ankanyi FC, Anomabo; Adaano city FC, Egyaa; DSTV FC, Anomabo; Estate FC, Anomabo and one team from Abura Asebu Kwamankese district, Mossbee FC, which eventually won the tournament after the tight weeklong competition which witnessed a lot of penalty shootouts.
Mossbee FC had beaten their keen contender, Estate FC, by 6:5 in a penalty shootout at the finals after the 90 minutes had ended in goalless.
Estate FC and Tomprese FC placed first and second runner ups respectively.
All the players in the three well-performed teams were given medals while four outstanding performers; Promising Star, best Goalkeeper, Goal King and Best Player were presented with their respective trophies.
In presenting the overall trophy to the Mossbee FC by Mame Ama Sam, grandmother of the CEO, Francis Ogoe, a family member of the Adwowa Gyaaba family and member of the foundation, Mr Kwesi Sagoe, urged all the players to work harder “to get to greater height…don’t let this be your ending point, strive harder”.
